Year 7-9

Elizabeth College

Year 7-9 (Key Stage 3) Curriculum

In years 7 to 9 we develop students' independent learning skills both in the classroom and through collapsing the traditional homework timetable in order to set tasks that particularly target such skills. Students also benefit from days when the normal timetable is abandoned in favour of cross-curricular investigations.

Year 7: All students follow a broad curriculum of the following subjects:

Mathematics  Drama
English  Religious Studies
Science  Physical Education and Games
French  Information and Communication Technology
History Music
Art Classical Studies (with some elementary Latin)
Geography Design and Technology
Life Skills (looking at students’ personal and social education)

In Mathematics and French, Faculty Heads, in consultation with the Vice-Principal (Academic), may decide to place students in ability groups, taking into account previous experience.

Years 8 and 9: Students continue with a similar curriculum, though some, on the basis of academic promise, will study Latin rather than Classical Studies. Spanish or German is also offered to those whose performance in French indicates likely chances of success in a second foreign language. College staff take heed of student preference, but reserve the right to make the final decision about which course would best suit the individual student.

In Year 8, all students follow courses in Art, Design Technology, Drama and Music. Students are set according to ability in Mathematics, Science, Latin and Classical Studies, French and English.

In Year 9, those who do not study a second foreign language have additional time to develop their skills in Art and Design & Technology. All students may also opt to follow a course in Music. Students who choose not to study Music will study Art and Design & Technology. Students are set according to ability in Mathematics, Science, Latin and Classical Studies, French and English. Year 9 students are additionally placed in ability groups in the Sciences, at the discretion of the respective Faculty Heads who will consult with the Vice-Principal (Academic).
