What is the Dead Donkey Club?
The Elizabeth College Foundation has set up what we hope will be a long-term source of income to support the objectives of the Foundation with the formation of the ‘Dead Donkey’ legacy club. Membership is exclusive to OEs and any other supporters of the College who have made provision for the Elizabeth College Foundation in their Wills.
The club has established an annual programme of events. These have included summer barbecues, a Christmas lunch, lunch in the Sixth Form Centre and other social occasions. Recently Dead Donkey Club members enjoyed a Wine Tasting Dinner at the United Club. Led by Richard Allisette from Sommelier and co-hosted by Elizabeth College Principal George Hartley and Donkey-in-Chief Geoff Dorey, both wine enthusiasts, this proved to be an informative, educational and enjoyable evening, though some people’s memories of the subtle details of the wines sampled remain slightly hazy! Club members also attended a very enjoyable dinner in College Hall where guests enjoyed entertainment from the College CCF Drum Corps and College musicians followed by an entertaining and informative talk about some interesting events in College's history from Bruce Parker. The Dead Donkey Club was also launched in the UK in 2011 with a very successful reception in the House of Commons.
The next Dead Donkey Club event will be held in spring 2012. Further details will be available from the College Foundation Office in due course.
Male members of the club are presented with a donkey-emblazoned club ties and ladies with a sparkly donkey handbag charm by Geoff Dorey, Donkey-in-Chief.
A few key points about leaving a Legacy to the Elizabeth College Foundation
• You do not have to be rich to leave a legacy.
• You do not have to disinherit your family and friends to support Elizabeth College with your legacy – and you can still make an impact.
• Even a modest percentage of the residue of your estate, after you have provided for family and friends, will make a huge difference.
• You can make a gift of any size: there is no minimum or maximum amount.
• You can change your mind at any point.
