Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care
Our determination to do our best for each individual child in our care is exemplified by a pastoral programme that places the welfare of our students at the heart of all we do. The strength of our pastoral system was recognised in the recent (Mar 2009) ISI inspection which found:
"The quality of pastoral care, and the welfare, health and safety of pupils throughout the college is outstanding. It meets well the aim to create a safe and happy environment for learning, where pupils respect themselves, each other and all members of the community. It matches well the high standards at the time of the last inspection. Structures for the organisation and management of pastoral care are thorough and comprehensive. Both teaching and non-teaching staff provide the highest standards of care and support for all the pupils."
We believe that the key to education is communication and it is strongly felt that this is achieved most effectively by a strong home/school partnership. It is essential to the home/school partnership that parents feel comfortable and welcome in College. Our aims as teachers and parents are the same: the happiness, well-being and success of each student.
On arrival at College the boys are placed into one of four Houses - North, South, Town and Country – based largely on where they live.
Each House Group has a House Tutor who will be the immediate point of contact for students in the event of social or behavioural concerns, or when an academic problem has proved difficult to resolve with the relevant subject teacher.
The Head of Year 7 will stay with his pupils for the first year of their time at Elizabeth College. After this time, the Year Head stays with pupils for two consecutive years.
Prior to their son’s arrival at College in September, parents of the new Year 7 intake will be invited to a meeting in June at which they will be able to meet their son’s Year Head and Tutor. Similar meetings are held in the September when students move on from Years 7 to 8 and 9 to 10.
